Villers-Cotterêts, 20 March 2025. The French Mnister of Culture (Rachida Dati) and The Minister Delegate for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Affairs (Clara Chappaz) inaugurated the Alliance for Language Technologies (ALT-EDIC) at its headquarters in the Cité internationale de la langue française. The event brought together policymakers, researchers and industry to set a European agenda for multilingual AI and language technology.
The inauguration capped a week of activity in Villers-Cotterêts. The LLMs4EU consortium also gathered at the Château for the kick-off of the LLMs4EU project, a three-year Digital Europe Programme project coordinated by ALT-EDIC and launched in March 2025. The project brings together 69 partners who will fine-tune models for key European sectors in all EU languages, and will provide dedicated services to help SMEs and public bodies fine-tune and adopt these models.
The event also included the European Language Data Space (LDS) Launch Conference, where the beta LDS architecture was presented to data providers and users. As part of Europe’s effort to strengthen cultural and linguistic diversity in AI, the LDS will underpin the sharing of language data across Europe.
