Job Description

The Alliance for Language Technologies (ALT-EDIC) seeks talents from various EU Member States to expand its team. The IT System Engineer will set up and manage an IT infrastructure both for the ALT-EDIC day-to-day operations and for the Language Technology ecosystem needs. The position will offer interactions with a wide range of stakeholders in an international environment, and the opportunity to play a key role in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Europe.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Conduct needs analysis, identify IT solutions and perform cost estimations, for new needs and for improving existing processes
  • Set up and manage the IT infrastructure for day-to-day operations (acquisition of hardware and software, configuration and maintenance of various types of equipment, including servers, laptops and smartphones)
  • Contribute to the development of an IT infrastructure for the Language Technology ecosystem, e.g. for linguistic data storage and management

Essential requirements

  • Expertise in IT management (operating systems, applications, collaborative tools, websites, etc.)
  • Experience in deploying open-source applications (e.g. Git server platforms, containerised services)
  • Expertise in cybersecurity
  • Interest in digital sovereignty and free software
  • Fluent in at least two EU languages

Desirable skills

  • Expertise in Linux and familiarity with Windows and MacOS environments
  • Good understanding of hardware architectures for AI and data-intensive applications
  • Interest in Language Technologies and AI
  • Proactive mindset and problem-solving skills
  • Adaptability and teamwork skills

Conditions of employment

  • The ALT-EDIC Employment and Recruitment Policy is available in English and in French
  • Competitive salary based on the candidate’s expertise and experience
  • Location: On-site at the Château de Villers-Cotterêts at least two days per week, with flexibility to work remotely on other days
  • Start date: As soon as possible

About the ALT-EDIC

The ALT-EDIC develops a common European infrastructure in Language Technologies. It seeks to improve European competitiveness in the domain and uphold Europe’s linguistic diversity and cultural richness.

The ALT-EDIC was officially set up on February 7th, 2024, by Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/458. It gathers 27 member and observer countries. It is coordinated and hosted by France, and its statutory seat is in Villers-Cotterêts.

The ALT-EDIC serves its members and the Language Technology community by increasing the availability of European language data, enhancing their interoperability, strengthening the offer of evaluation, fostering networking, and contributing to common policies. The fast progress of technologies such as Large Language Models (LLMs) puts the ALT-EDIC at the heart of the development of AI technologies.
